Tubby the Cat

This is Tubby. He's our new cat. We got him a few weeks ago. He's 6 years old. He has FIV ([link]). Because of that, we keep him indoors. The shelter we got him from also requires that you keep your cat indoors.

He's a very nice cat. He's sitting on the kitchen floor in this photo.

His name, Tubby, comes from the second day we had him. After dinner, we couldn't find him and we thought he had run away. We spend the next morning putting lost cat fliers all around the neighborhood. Later that day, my friend Steve and I were tearing out a section of cabinetry to make room for my new dishwasher (which rocks, by the way). After we had made a sufficient mess, Steve goes into my downstairs bathroom which currently has the walls ripped down. He suggests that if he were a cat, he would hide inside the space under the bathtub. That space is only accessible through a 16"x4" opening between the studs. We kick the side of the cast iron tub and the cat pokes his head out of the end of the tub but he can't get out because he's too fat. We tempt the cat out with string cheese and then Steve grabs the cat and pulls him out of the space. Later that day, George comes over and he helps us lift the tub temporarily to clean out the space under the tub. Now we have that bathroom closed up until it's done so Tubby won't get stuck there anymore.
